HMD has quietly expanded its wearable range with two new budget-friendly smartwatches, the Watch X1 and Watch P1. Both prioritize fitness tracking and multi-day battery life over advanced smartwatch extras.
Two new models, clear priorities
The Watch X1 is the more premium of the pair, packing a 1.43-inch circular AMOLED screen at 466 × 466 resolution and a peak brightness of 600 nits. It carries an IP68 ingress protection rating and promises roughly five days of battery life on a single charge. Health features include continuous heart-rate monitoring, SpO2 (blood oxygen) sensing, sleep tracking and more than 700 sport modes. It also offers simple wellness nudges—think inactivity alerts and drink-water reminders—and comes in Gray Green, Black, Gray Metallic and Silver Leather finishes.
By contrast, the Watch P1 takes a cost-conscious route. It sports a larger 1.83-inch rectangular LCD with a lower 284 × 240 resolution and up to 550 nits of brightness. The P1 is rated IP67, so it's dust-resistant and tolerates some splashes but isn’t meant for swimming. Battery life is rated up to four days, and it still supports the same 700+ sport modes and sleep monitoring. Color choices are Black and Silver.
There are notable trade-offs: neither model includes built-in GPS or NFC. That means outdoor tracks will depend on your phone’s location, and contactless payments aren’t supported. If you’re after standalone workout tracking or mobile payments, these watches won’t deliver—though they make sense as affordable fitness-focused wearables for users who keep their phone nearby.
HMD hasn’t announced pricing or release dates yet, but the pair is clearly aimed at people who want reliable fitness tracking, long battery life and a modest price—rather than a full-featured smartwatch ecosystem. Expect more details soon if you’re considering a budget wearable with serious sports-mode coverage.
