What if your next phone unfolded into something more like a pocket tablet? Huawei appears poised to push that idea further with a rumored follow-up to last year’s unconventional Pura X.
The original Pura X turned heads by favoring width over height, opening into a roomy 16:10 panel that felt closer to a small slate than the usual narrow foldable. Now a Weibo tipster claims the Pura X2 is coming, and the changes sound incremental but meaningful: a larger inner display that grows to about 7.5 inches while keeping that wider aspect ratio, and an outer screen significantly bigger than before to make quick tasks painless without opening the device.
Design won't be reinvented. Sources suggest the Pura X2 keeps the overall silhouette of its predecessor, but Huawei may borrow hinge refinements from the Mate X7—improvements that could make the folding action smoother and more durable. Practicality matters more than flash here.
Camera-wise, Huawei looks to be reorganizing the rear. Leaks point to a horizontal camera bar housing three, possibly four, sensors. The headline grabber is a rumored 200MP main sensor, which would dramatically raise the phone’s imaging ambitions and change how Huawei markets photographic performance on a foldable.
Under the hood, Huawei’s own Kirin silicon remains the center of the story. The rumor mill lists Kirin 9020, 9030 and even a 9030 Pro—either indicating multiple SKUs at launch or uncertainty about the final chipset. Memory and storage are generous on paper: configurations could start at 12GB of RAM and climb to a hefty 20GB, while storage may top out at 1TB. HarmonyOS 6.1 is expected to run the show.
There are still blanks. Battery capacity, exact camera configuration, and pricing haven’t leaked with confidence, though the original Pura X set a reference point with a 6.3-inch inner panel, a small outer display, a triple-camera array, a 4720mAh battery, and wired and wireless charging. If Huawei keeps to that balance but ups the screen and sensor game, the Pura X2 could appeal to people who want tablet-like real estate without carrying a tablet.
If these leaks prove accurate, the Pura X2 would nudge foldable phones closer to replacing compact tablets while refining durability and camera chops. Will buyers bite? That depends on how Huawei prices its wide-fold gamble and when it puts the phone on stage.
