A suitcase probably isn’t the first place you’d expect Xiaomi to flex its design muscle—but here we are, looking at a surprisingly stylish purple carry-on that feels anything but ordinary.

The company has quietly expanded its Mijia Colorful Suitcase lineup with a new purple variant, now live on its Youpin crowdfunding platform. It’s a small update on paper. In reality, it’s Xiaomi doing what it does best: taking a familiar product and refining it just enough to make you look twice.

The pricing keeps things accessible. The compact 20-inch version lands at 199 yuan (around $28), while the roomier 24-inch model comes in at 299 yuan (roughly $43). Shipping is expected to kick off on March 26.

Not Just a Pretty Shell

The outer casing is built from polypropylene (PP), a material known for being both lightweight and resilient. Xiaomi adds a textured, anti-scratch finish—because luggage rarely lives a gentle life. Between airport belts, overhead bins, and taxi trunks, that extra durability matters.

Inside, things are just as considered. The lining uses polyester fiber treated with an antibacterial coating, aiming to keep things fresher over time. Storage is structured but flexible: a U-shaped zip compartment for separation and X-shaped straps to lock everything in place mid-transit.

Size-wise, the 20-inch model offers a 40-liter capacity and weighs 2.7 kg, making it ideal for short trips or carry-on use. The 24-inch version steps up to 67 liters with a 3.4 kg frame, better suited for longer journeys or heavier packing.

Small Details That Make Travel Smoother

Where the suitcase really earns its keep is in motion. Large-diameter spinner wheels help it glide with minimal noise, whether you’re crossing polished airport floors or uneven sidewalks. A TSA-approved lock is built in, removing one more layer of travel anxiety.

The telescopic handle, made from rust-resistant aluminum alloy, adjusts across four stages, while reinforced side feet add durability when the bag is set down. Even the handle gets attention, wrapped in TPU material for a more comfortable grip during those inevitable stair hauls.

The new purple joins an already varied palette—black, blue, white, pink, and green—giving travelers a bit more personality in a sea of identical luggage.

And Xiaomi isn’t stopping here. Alongside this release, the company has also teased a new front-opening suitcase design, hinting that its push into travel gear is just getting started.
