For iPhone users who rely on WhatsApp behind the wheel, the app’s latest update finally closes a long-standing gap. Version 26.13.74 now brings a native WhatsApp for CarPlay experience, giving drivers a cleaner, faster way to handle calls and messages without digging through Siri commands alone.
The change is being described by WhatsApp as a major update on the App Store, and it is easy to see why. Instead of the stripped-down voice-only setup CarPlay users had before, the new interface gives the app a proper place on the car’s infotainment screen. It is simpler. It is more direct. And, just as importantly, it keeps end-to-end encryption intact.
A better fit for the road
WhatsApp’s earlier CarPlay support never really felt complete. It arrived early, yes, but it leaned heavily on Siri and offered little else. No recent chats. No contact details. No real way to browse without asking the assistant to do everything.

There is also a favorites tab, which pulls the contacts you already mark as important in WhatsApp on your iPhone. That small touch makes a big difference in the car, where speed and simplicity matter more than ever.
The updated experience had already been spotted in beta testing more than a week ago, so its arrival is not a surprise. Still, for everyday users, it is a meaningful one. Once the latest WhatsApp for iOS update is installed from the App Store, the new CarPlay app should appear automatically the next time the iPhone connects to the car.
It also fits into a broader pattern for WhatsApp, which has been steadily adding more features beyond basic messaging. Recent updates have included AI-powered reply suggestions for incoming chats, AI photo touch-ups, and other tools aimed at making the app feel a little smarter and a little more polished.
For CarPlay users, though, this is the update that really matters. After years of a limited experience, WhatsApp finally feels like it belongs on the dashboard.
