Google’s AI Mode is quietly becoming a more practical assistant, and its latest upgrade in the UK pushes it straight into everyday life: restaurant bookings. Instead of scrolling through endless listings and opening tab after tab, users can now describe the kind of table they want and let Google do the hunting.

That means a request like “a dog-friendly Italian restaurant in Shoreditch for Saturday at 7PM” is enough to set the process in motion. Need a sushi spot nearby with space for four and vegan tempura on the menu? That works too. The idea is simple, but powerful. Say what you want, and AI Mode narrows the field for you.

A more useful kind of search

The feature is rolling out in the UK after first appearing in the US last year, and it shows how Google is trying to make Search feel less like a directory and more like a concierge. Rather than forcing users to translate vague plans into a pile of filters, AI Mode turns natural language into a booking flow.

Google says the service will present a curated list of restaurants based on the request, then direct users to partner platforms where the reservation can be completed. Those partners include TheFork, SevenRooms, ResDiary, Mozrest, Foodhub, Dojo, DesignMyNight, and OpenTable.

For diners, that could mean a faster path from “where should we eat?” to “table confirmed.” For Google, it is another sign that AI-powered search is moving beyond answers and into action. And that is where the real shift begins.

“I love exploring gadgets, apps, and trends that redefine how we connect, work, and play in a digital world.”
