OnePlus 16 Leak Points to a Faster, Sharper Flagship

3 Minutes

The OnePlus 16 is already shaping up to be one of the year’s most talked-about Android flagships, and the latest leak suggests the company is not thinking in small steps. A faster display, a new Qualcomm chip, and a bigger battery could turn this into a very aggressive upgrade.

A display built to impress

According to a fresh post from well-known Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 16 may come with a 6.78-inch custom BOE LTPO flat panel with 1.5K resolution. That alone sounds familiar enough for a premium handset. The real twist is in the refinements.

The leak claims OnePlus is using LIPO packaging technology to trim the borders down to around 1mm on all sides, which should make the phone look remarkably clean from the front. Symmetry matters here. A lot.

Refresh rate is where things get wild. The panel is said to have 185Hz as its minimum target, while the company is reportedly testing support for as high as 240Hz. If that holds up, it would push the OnePlus 16 well beyond what most rivals are currently offering. The display may also include a custom touch control IC and BT.2020 color gamut support, giving it the kind of spec sheet that display enthusiasts love to dissect.

Snapdragon power, flagship ambitions

Under the hood, the OnePlus 16 is expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, listed under the model number SM8975. That points to a serious performance jump, and it could also mean the phone will support LPDDR6 RAM. In plain terms, this is the kind of hardware that should keep pace with demanding games, heavy multitasking, and whatever Android throws at it next.

The phone is also expected to go head-to-head with the rumored iQOO 16, another performance-first flagship that is said to use the same chipset. Competition at the top end is heating up fast, and OnePlus appears ready to fight for the speed crown.

Camera leaks suggest a familiar but strong triple setup: a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. That last part is especially interesting. Periscope zoom has become a major battleground for premium phones, and a 200-megapixel telephoto unit could give OnePlus a real edge in long-range photography.

Battery life may be another headline-grabber. Recent reports point to a massive 9,000mAh battery, which would place the OnePlus 16 in rare territory for a mainstream flagship. If accurate, that could finally ease the constant trade-off between high performance and all-day endurance.

On the software side, the phone is likely to launch with OxygenOS 17 based on Android 17. The base model is tipped to arrive with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while pricing could start at around 5,000 Yuan, or roughly $730.

Nothing is official yet, of course, and leaks always deserve a pinch of salt. Still, if even half of these details prove accurate, the OnePlus 16 could be one of the most ambitious Android flagships of the year.

Whoa 200MP periscope and a 9k battery?? if that's true I might actually wait for this upgrade. But will it be bulky tho?

Is this even real? 185Hz min and 240Hz testing sounds wild, 9000mAh too... feels like a prototype leak, not final.
