Croatia’s HNS integrates a Kadena-based crypto token into its official app

The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) has become the first national team to offer direct crypto rewards to fans. In a move timed ahead of the 2026 World Cup, HNS announced the integration of the VATRENI fan token into its official fan store app via a collaboration with Kadena. Supporters who purchase official merchandise through the app will automatically receive 1% back in VATRENI tokens.

How fans benefit: rewards, VIP access and ticket plans

VATRENI token holders gain more than a small cashback: the token is designed to unlock exclusive experiences and perks. HNS says holders will be eligible for VIP hospitality, special limited-edition merchandise drops, and other club-specific rewards. The federation also confirmed plans to make VATRENI redeemable for match tickets at a later stage, extending the token's utility beyond collectibles and membership benefits.

Token migration: from Polygon to Kadena

VATRENI originally launched on Polygon in 2023. Under the new partnership, the token will migrate to the Kadena blockchain to power in-app rewards and back-end services. Kadena’s infrastructure aims to consolidate ticketing, merchandise, and membership systems into a single blockchain-enabled platform, reducing friction and improving data-driven personalization.

Joel Woodman, head of partnerships at Kadena, emphasized a smooth fan experience: the underlying blockchain should be "invisible by design," enabling fans to interact naturally while clubs benefit from real-time insights and tailored offers.

Market availability and liquidity

The VATRENI token is tradable on exchanges, including Binance, though current liquidity is modest. On Oct. 7, 24-hour centralized-exchange volumes were roughly $17,000, and the token's market capitalization stood near $4.8 million. Low trading volume can limit short-term price movement, but federation-backed use cases—like ticket redemption and VIP access—could increase demand and utility over time.

What this means for sports and blockchain adoption

This initiative reinforces a growing trend: sports organizations leveraging blockchain and fan tokens to deepen engagement, monetize merchandise, and modernize ticketing. By integrating VATRENI into a single app experience, HNS and Kadena hope to create a seamless journey for supporters while testing real-world utility for fan tokens in mainstream sport.

For fans, the program offers a practical introduction to crypto rewards tied directly to fandom. For clubs and leagues, it represents another step toward tokenized ecosystems for membership, commerce, and ticketing.
