Apple's first foldable iPhone may arrive with a sticker shock: analyst estimates put the iPhone Fold at roughly $2,499, a price that would place it near the top of Apple’s lineup and well above current folding rivals.
Why the iPhone Fold could command such a premium
The projection comes from Arthur Liao of Fubon Research, who cites rising component costs and a pricier display and hinge assembly as the main drivers. Global smartphone shipments are expected to fall in 2026, while Apple’s own volumes are forecast to dip about 4 percent year-over-year — yet the company may still push into premium foldables as a strategic play.
Liao’s note highlights a few market pressures: a 5–6 percent rise in the overall bill of materials next year and DRAM contract prices reportedly up more than 75 percent versus late 2024. Despite the headwinds, Fubon expects around 15.4 million foldable iPhones over the product’s lifetime, including roughly 5.4 million units sold in 2026 alone.
To put the predicted $2,499 price in context: Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at about $1,999. If Apple’s estimate holds, the iPhone Fold would retail at about twice the cost of an iPhone 17 Pro Max, driven largely by its bespoke display, hinge mechanics, and lightweight structural parts.

What the iPhone Fold may pack
- Book-style fold with a 7.74-inch primary panel and a 5.49-inch cover display
- 2,713 x 1,920 resolution with a 4:3 aspect ratio
- Touch ID instead of Face ID, and a display engineered to hide any visible crease
- A20 Pro SoC, 12GB RAM, and Apple’s in-house C2 5G modem
- Rear dual-camera system up to 48MP, plus an in-display selfie camera up to 24MP
- Battery capacity estimated between 5,400 and 5,800 mAh
- Targeted launch in H2 2026
These specs suggest Apple is positioning the Fold as a premium productivity device rather than a niche experiment. A crease-free display and Touch ID are interesting design choices that could differentiate it from competitors — but will buyers accept a price that approaches $2,500?
For consumers weighing options, the main questions will be whether iOS adapts smoothly to a larger foldable canvas and whether Apple’s integration and build quality justify paying a premium over established foldables like Samsung’s Z Fold series. Expect more leaks and analyst updates through 2026 as launch approaches.
