OpenAI has finally given a launch window for the long-anticipated "Adult Mode" in ChatGPT. Announced alongside details about the new GPT-5.2 model, the feature is slated to arrive in the first quarter of 2026 and aims to let verified adults engage in more open, mature conversations.
What to expect — and why age checks matter
For years users have criticized ChatGPT for being overly cautious around sexual or mature topics, calling the experience less useful or even blunt. Adult Mode promises a different balance: verified adults will be able to access less filtered language, erotica, and other content currently blocked by default. OpenAI’s Applications chief, Fidji Simo, says the company’s priority isn’t loosening rules for grown-ups — it’s preventing minors from seeing explicit material.
