Waze is finally rolling out a long-requested feature: visible traffic lights on the map. The change is currently in testing and could help drivers spot signals earlier and plan turns with more confidence.
How the feature works (and where it’s available)
The traffic-light display is in an early, limited release in Israel. In navigation mode Waze will show up to three traffic lights along your route — a deliberate cap to keep the screen from getting cluttered while you drive. If you use the app without active navigation, however, the map can display all nearby traffic signals, giving you a fuller view of intersections around you.
Why the delay compared with Google Maps? Google owns both apps, but Waze’s interface and user experience have different priorities; the team appears to be taking a cautious approach to add signals without overwhelming drivers.

There’s no official timeline for a global rollout yet, but testing in Israel is a strong sign the feature is moving through development. If the pilots go well, broader availability could come sooner rather than later.
- Limited test region: Israel
- Navigation mode: shows a maximum of three traffic lights
- Map view (no navigation): displays all nearby signals
- Global release date: not announced
