TCL has stepped into the digital-paper arena with the Note A1 NxtPaper, a sleek 11.5-inch notepad that targets creators, students and professionals looking for a pen-first writing experience. It blends a paper-like display, fast stylus input and onboard AI tools at a competitive price.
Paper-like display, fast stylus, and built-in AI
The Note A1 sports an 11.5-inch NxtPaper Pure display at 2200x1440 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and 300-nit peak brightness. TCL says the panel offers reflection-free clarity and certified eye comfort, plus adaptive brightness that helps reduce strain in different lighting. Under the hood is MediaTek's Helio G100, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Battery life is a highlight: an 8,000 mAh cell promises long standby, with 33W wired charging for quick top-ups. The device also includes a 13MP rear camera, two speakers and an array of eight microphones, making it as capable for meetings and on-the-go capture as it is for handwriting.
For input, TCL bundles the T-Pen Pro, a dual-tip stylus with an eraser end. The pen supports 8,192 pressure levels and sub-5ms latency, and TCL claims it replicates the resistance and texture of real paper to deliver a pencil-like writing feel.
Where the Note A1 tries to stand out is its software: integrated AI tools like AI Rewrite, Writing Assist and Inspiration Space are designed to help organize ideas, draft text and speed creative workflows. You’ll also find real-time transcription and translation plus automated meeting summaries to cut down on manual note cleanup.
Physically the notepad is thin and light: a 5.5mm profile, aluminum unibody and roughly 500 g of weight. Optional accessories include a flip case and a keyboard case if you want to convert the device into a compact productivity companion.
Pricing lands at $549, and TCL plans to ship the Note A1 across Europe, North America and APAC starting at the end of February. It’s a clear attempt to challenge devices like the reMarkable Paper Pro and Kindle Scribe by combining a high-quality writing surface with modern AI features.
