HMD looks to be branching beyond phones with a stripped-back, budget Bluetooth speaker. Recent images and specs shared on X by a known HMD tipster suggest the company is working on the HMD Boom E1 — a compact, no-frills portable speaker built for casual outdoor use.
What the leak shows
The leaked details point to a simple but practical design. The Boom E1 reportedly uses a 4-ohm horn paired with a 52mm driver and delivers up to 5W of power — modest by modern standards but typical for tiny, pocketable speakers. It also carries an IPX7 rating, so it should handle splashes, rain or brief submersion, which makes it a decent companion at the beach, poolside, or on short hikes.
- Driver: 52mm with 4-ohm horn
- Output: 5W max
- Water resistance: IPX7
- Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0 and AUX line-in
- Extras: built-in microphone, physical playback and volume buttons
- Battery and charging: 800mAh cell with USB-C charging

The images show a fully blue, circular speaker with a fabric grille and a prominent HMD logo on top. Physical controls—power, play and volume buttons—are located on the bottom, and a side lanyard adds convenience for carrying. Bluetooth 5.0 covers wireless streaming, while the AUX port keeps wired playback possible. A built-in mic could also let the device double as a simple speakerphone.
There’s no official word from HMD on price or launch timing. Given the basic specs and compact battery, the Boom E1 appears aimed at buyers who want an affordable, splash-proof speaker for short listening sessions rather than audiophiles seeking deep bass or long runtimes.
Whether the Boom E1 makes it to market as shown remains to be seen, but the leak gives a clear picture of HMD testing the waters in the entry-level audio space.
