New leaks suggest Huawei could be preparing to equip the Pura 90 Ultra with a high-resolution 200MP telephoto module — joining a growing list of 2026 flagships that emphasize extreme zoom detail.
What the leak reveals
Tipster Digital Chat Station says one of the "top five manufacturers" is testing a camera-focused flagship that pairs a 50MP, 1-inch main sensor with a variable aperture and a 200MP telephoto unit. The hint points to Huawei: the 50MP 1-inch variable-aperture setup matches the hardware used on the current Pura 80 Ultra, making the Pura 90 Ultra the obvious candidate.
According to the leak, the 200MP telephoto sensor measures 1/1.28 inches and supports roughly 3.5x optical zoom — a sweet spot for portrait and midrange zoom quality without the bulk of periscope modules. That would put Huawei alongside Xiaomi, which already shipped the 17 Ultra with a 200MP tele lens, and ahead of other expected entries from Oppo and Vivo.

Perhaps the most interesting detail: Huawei is reportedly running A/B tests between two sensor options. The current engineering samples alternate between a 40nm OV52A and a more advanced 22nm SCC80XS. Both share the same physical dimensions, but the 22nm design is said to offer superior hardware performance, which could affect image processing, noise levels, and power efficiency.
Sources also suggest the Pura 90 Ultra could appear before China’s Lunar New Year, as part of a broader Pura 90 family that will likely include the Pura 90, Pura 90 Pro, and Pura 90 Pro Plus. If the timing holds, Huawei would be racing several rivals to preview next-generation telephoto capabilities early in 2026.
Whether Huawei opts for the OV52A or the SCC80XS will matter to photographers and spec watchers: sensor node size and hardware features can change how well a camera delivers on resolution, dynamic range, and low-light performance. Expect more leaks in the coming weeks as testing continues — and manufacturers push the 200MP telephoto trend into mainstream flagship lineups.
