Google Photos has rolled out a playful new feature that turns your selfies into shareable memes. Called Me Meme, the tool uses generative AI to place you — literally — into familiar meme templates. It’s quick, creative, and could be the kind of viral boost users love.
How Me Meme works (and how to try it)
Me Meme is straightforward. Open Google Photos on your Android or iOS device, tap Create at the bottom, then choose Me Meme. Pick a template from Google’s gallery or upload your own meme image, add a photo of yourself, and tap Generate. In seconds the app produces a personalized meme you can save, regenerate, or share.
The system blends your photo with template text and styling using on-device and cloud AI to keep the results funny and recognizable. Want a classic reaction format or a fresh mash-up? You can swap templates or re-run generation until you get the perfect punchline.
One important note: Me Meme is currently available only in the US. That means users elsewhere will have to wait for a wider rollout.

Privacy, creativity, and viral potential
Google’s new tool aims to lower the bar for meme-making — you don’t need editing skills to join in. But it also raises familiar questions about photo use and data. Google states the feature is designed to respect user privacy, and typical controls in Google Photos let you manage who sees what. Still, think twice before turning every photo into meme fodder: once shared, images can spread fast.
Whether Me Meme becomes a long-term favorite or a short-lived novelty may come down to how well Google balances fun with control. For now, it’s an easy way to test generative AI’s creative side and maybe get a few laughs from friends.
