Xiaomi has launched a retrofit smart lock designed to snap over existing cylinders without drilling—bringing Matter compatibility, biometric access and multi-platform voice control to more homes. It aims to simplify installation while plugging into modern smart-home ecosystems.
What it does and how it fits
The Self-Install Smart Lock fits over standard cylinders and supports eight common lock types, including Euro profile, UK mortise and ASSA 2000 systems. It accepts keys up to 5mm thick and accommodates specific cylinder projection heights, so most existing doors can keep their original keys and hardware.
Access options are broad: semiconductor fingerprint recognition, permanent and temporary passcodes, Bluetooth unlocking and traditional keys. Remote control and live status updates arrive through the Xiaomi Home app, while voice commands work with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Home—though some platforms may ask for extra authentication steps.

Security, sensors and smart-home features
Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth connectivity feed real-time lock status, access logs and alerts to the app. Built-in protections include auto-locking, open-door reminders, duress alerts, anti-tamper warnings and notifications after multiple failed attempts. For users who want a dedicated external interface, an optional IP65-rated keypad includes a semiconductor fingerprint sensor Xiaomi says achieves a 99.3% identification rate. Note that a few advanced functions require this external keypad or a separate door sensor.
- Matter support for cross-platform smart-home compatibility
- Runs on Xiaomi’s MJA1 chipset and carries EN18031 cybersecurity certification
- 2450mAh lithium battery rated for about six months of typical use
Between Matter support and native integrations, this retrofit lock is intended to slot into existing smart-home setups without forcing a single vendor lock-in. That makes it a compelling option for users who want both local biometric access and cloud-enabled convenience.
Xiaomi first listed the product globally in October 2025 and has begun rolling it out regionally: Japan pricing is ¥12,980 (around $82) and the UAE listing shows AED 359 (about $98). Support pages are live for the UK and several EU markets, suggesting a wider European release may follow, though firm prices and dates are still pending.
For buyers looking to upgrade security without replacing doors or changing cylinders, the Self-Install Smart Lock offers a mix of convenience, cross-platform compatibility and sensible safety features—assuming your door meets the size and projection requirements.
