Mercedes-Benz MarcoPolo 2027: factory-built two-level luxury camper
Mercedes-Benz has updated the MarcoPolo camper van for 2027, transforming it into a factory-built, two-level mobile hotel that brings five-star comforts to a compact van footprint. Known for setting the benchmark in premium camper vans, the MarcoPolo keeps its modern Class V face while introducing a redesigned pop-top roof, improved insulation and an interior that prioritizes comfort and tech.

Design and sleeping arrangements
The biggest change is the new pop-top roof with an aluminum shell and integrated LED lighting. The upper bed measures approximately 1.13 by 2.05 meters, providing a true double bed that elevates the MarcoPolo into a two-story sleeping layout when combined with the reconfigurable rear seats. That practical double-decker arrangement makes the van ideal for couples or families who want separate sleeping areas without sacrificing living space.

Highlights:
- New aluminum pop-top with LED ambient lighting
- Upper double bed: ~1.13 x 2.05 m
- Around 10 mm additional headroom and improved thermal and acoustic insulation
- Rear seats fold into a second bed for two-level sleeping

Interior layout and comfort
Inside, the MarcoPolo blends camper functionality with Mercedes refinement. The cabin features dual 12.3-inch screens running the latest MBUX software, which now handles camping functions smoothly alongside navigation and vehicle systems. The compact kitchenette, wardrobe, and swivel front seats remain, but Mercedes added magnetic privacy curtains, optimized folding tables, and a stronger audio system with eight speakers and a subwoofer. Notably, the audio system can stream via Bluetooth even when the engine is off — a small detail that enhances the camping experience.

Powertrain, production and market positioning
Under the hood, the proven 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine continues unchanged, delivering up to 234 hp. Power is routed through a 9-speed automatic gearbox to rear-wheel drive or Mercedes’ optional all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes has shifted MarcoPolo conversion work in-house, moving production from Westfalia to its own factory. The brand promises higher build quality and faster delivery times as a result.

Deliveries of the 2027 MarcoPolo are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. Mercedes also confirmed that the next generation MarcoPolo is already under development on all-new electric and petrol platforms, slated to arrive before the end of the decade — a clear signal that the luxury camper segment will evolve toward electrification.

For enthusiasts, the MarcoPolo 2027 represents a deliberate push to combine Mercedes-Benz automotive quality with true camper practicality: a mobile hotel that’s refined, connected, and ready for longer journeys.
