Great Wall opens pre-orders for the Tank 400 plug-in hybrid

Great Wall Motor has announced that pre-sales for the updated Tank 400 plug-in hybrid SUV will begin on October 21. The model arrives in two trims — Hi4-T and the newly introduced Hi4-Z — bringing notable design tweaks, upgraded sensors and expanded electric range to the brand's large SUV lineup.

What's new on the outside

While the new Tank 400 retains the overall silhouette of its predecessor, the exterior has been refreshed with more pronounced body lines, a black decorative strip on the front bumper, and a striking new purple paint option. The roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and additional side and rear cameras underline Great Wall's push toward advanced driver assistance and improved surround sensing.

Dimensions and packaging

This is a substantial SUV: length 4,964 mm, width 1,970 mm and height 1,905 mm, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase — a package that supports roomy cabin space and highway stability, positioning the Tank 400 against other premium plug-in hybrid SUVs.

Powertrain and efficiency

  • Hi4-T: Combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine (248 hp) with a 160-hp electric motor. Its 37.1 kWh battery delivers an all-electric range of about 105 km and a combined fuel consumption near 8.4 L/100 km.
  • Hi4-Z: Couples the same 2.0-liter turbo (248 hp, 380 Nm) with two electric motors rated at 288 and 321 hp. The larger 59.05 kWh battery boosts pure-electric range to roughly 200 km, while combined fuel consumption is around 8.3 L/100 km.

A 200 km electric range for the Hi4-Z places the Tank 400 among the more capable PHEVs, blurring the line between hybrid and full-electric practicality for daily urban driving.

Interior and tech

Inside, the Tank 400 features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch floating infotainment screen. Comfort and convenience highlights include an integrated fridge, a 14-speaker audio system, a head-up display and wireless charging — features aimed at buyers seeking both luxury and tech-forward usability.

Highlights:

  • Two trims: Hi4-T and Hi4-Z
  • Up to 200 km electric range (Hi4-Z)
  • Advanced roof LiDAR and multi-camera sensors
  • Premium cabin tech and comfort features

With competitive electric range and rich equipment, the renewed Tank 400 targets customers who want near-EV daily range without fully committing to a battery-only vehicle.
