Vivo might be preparing a small shake-up in the way its flagship phones deliver performance. Instead of treating the entire lineup the same, the next-generation X-series could split its power strategy in two.
According to a fresh leak circulating in the mobile industry, the upcoming Vivo X500 series may arrive with different flagship processors depending on the model. The standard version is rumored to run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600, while the higher-end Pro variant could step up to a more powerful Dimensity 9600 Pro chip.
If the rumor holds true, it would mark a noticeable change in direction for Vivo’s flagship lineup. The current Vivo X300 family — introduced in October 2025 — keeps things simple. Both the Vivo X300 and X300 Pro rely on the same Dimensity 9500 chipset, meaning performance differences between the two devices are relatively minor.
This time, Vivo may be drawing a clearer line between the models.
The leak also hints at an unusual naming jump. Rather than releasing an X400 generation, Vivo is reportedly planning to move directly from the X300 series to the X500 lineup. Smartphone brands occasionally skip numbers for branding or marketing reasons, but for now the motivation behind the jump remains unclear.
Two flagship chips, one lineup
MediaTek is expected to introduce two new premium mobile platforms in 2026: the Dimensity 9600 and a higher-tier Dimensity 9600 Pro. While official specifications haven’t surfaced yet, the Pro version would likely push performance further with stronger CPU and GPU capabilities.
That could also mean upgrades in AI acceleration, imaging pipelines, and power efficiency — areas where modern flagship chipsets increasingly compete.
If Vivo adopts this dual-chip strategy, it would mirror a broader shift happening across the smartphone industry. Chipmakers and manufacturers are experimenting with ways to differentiate high-end models without pushing prices too aggressively. Offering two flagship-grade processors within the same family could be one way to do that.
Qualcomm, for example, is rumored to be exploring a similar approach with its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 platform, potentially giving phone makers more flexibility in performance tiers.
Beyond raw processing power, early whispers suggest another big change may be coming to the X500 series: battery capacity. Some reports claim Vivo could equip the devices with batteries approaching the 7,000mAh range. If accurate, that would represent a sizable leap over the previous generation and could translate into significantly longer endurance.
Of course, these details are still based on early leaks rather than official announcements. The Vivo X500 lineup is believed to be months away from release, with a possible debut window toward the end of 2026.
Until then, the picture remains incomplete. But if the rumors prove accurate, the X500 series could signal a new strategy for Vivo — one where flagship phones in the same family no longer share the same engine under the hood.
