Not everything is going quiet and electrified just yet. Somewhere in Affalterbach, a V8 is still clearing its throat—and it’s headed for the top of the CLE lineup.

The upcoming Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 Mythos isn’t just another fast coupe. It’s shaping up to be a statement piece for collectors who still want combustion drama wrapped in modern design. Limited numbers, big price, and a very deliberate refusal to downsize—this is AMG planting a flag.

If the CLE name sounds unfamiliar, that’s because it’s still settling in. It replaces the two-door versions of both the C-Class and E-Class, effectively merging them into a single, sleeker coupe line. So far, no V8. That changes here—and dramatically so.

A V8 comeback, but not for everyone

The Mythos badge signals something rare. This will be only the second model in AMG’s ultra-exclusive series, following the wild SL-based PureSpeed. Where that car leaned into spectacle, the CLE 63 Mythos appears to blend aggression with a more classic coupe silhouette—albeit one stretched over seriously muscular proportions.

Under the hood, expectations are already sky-high. AMG’s updated 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8—recently seen in the latest S-Class—delivers 530 horsepower in its standard form. But no one expects “standard” here. Insiders suggest the Mythos could push well beyond 650 horsepower, putting it comfortably ahead of the already controversial four-cylinder hybrid C 63 S E Performance.

In other words, this isn’t just about adding cylinders back into the mix. It’s about restoring a certain kind of character—one that many AMG loyalists felt was slipping away.

Visually, the car doesn’t hold back. Early renderings, based on official teasers, show swollen wheel arches, deep air intakes, and a front end that looks carved for speed. The Panamericana grille remains, flanked by sharp detailing and functional aero elements like canards and a pronounced front splitter.

Move to the rear, and things get even more theatrical: a large fixed wing, a ducktail spoiler beneath it, aggressive diffuser work, and those unmistakable square exhaust tips reserved for AMG’s V8 machines. It’s layered, bold, and very intentional.

The prototype renderings also hint at a dark, almost stealthy aesthetic—matte finishes, black or carbon fiber accents, and just enough chrome to catch the light in motion. It feels less like a luxury coupe and more like a street-legal performance artifact.

There’s still no official reveal date, but expectations are already circling around scarcity and price. If the PureSpeed is any benchmark, the CLE 63 Mythos won’t come cheap—it could easily climb into seven-figure territory depending on configuration and exclusivity.

This isn’t AMG chasing volume. It’s AMG reminding everyone what it can still do.

And if the rumors hold, this V8 won’t stop here. The same engine could find its way into future top-tier C-Class and GLC models, quietly extending the life of AMG’s most beloved powertrain—at least for a little while longer.
