Nio’s Third-Gen ES8 Hits 90,000 Deliveries in 195 Days

Sometimes a single delivery number says more than a sales chart ever could. For Nio, the 90,000th handover of the third-generation ES8 is one of those moments. The milestone was reached in Hefei, Anhui province, on Friday, just 195 days after deliveries of the large electric SUV began in September 2025.

The timing matters. After the Lunar New Year slowdown, the new ES8 has kept its momentum alive, and then some. In March alone, Nio delivered 16,255 units of the model, making it the top seller in China’s market for vehicles priced above 400,000 yuan for the third straight month, according to the company.

That kind of consistency is rare in the premium EV space, where buyers have plenty of choices and brand loyalty is never guaranteed. Yet the ES8 has carved out a strong position for itself. In the first quarter of the year, it accounted for 45,184 deliveries, representing 54.14 percent of Nio’s total sales over the period. That is not just a good run. It is the backbone of the brand’s recent recovery.

A flagship SUV doing the heavy lifting

The third-generation ES8 is a three-row, pure-electric SUV built on a 900-volt high-voltage architecture. It starts at 406,800 yuan, placing it among the most expensive models from a domestic Chinese automaker. But pricing has not stopped it from finding buyers, especially among customers looking for size, range, and a more premium EV experience.

Its commercial success has helped Nio at a crucial time. The company recently reported its first quarterly profitability in the fourth quarter of last year, a long-awaited turnaround that the ES8 clearly helped support. High-margin models like this one matter. A lot.

To keep the momentum going, Nio extended its incentives into April. The offer includes a limited-time purchase tax subsidy of 10,000 yuan, along with a low-interest financing plan that allows buyers to put down as little as 20 percent. The company is also preparing a five-seat version of the third-generation ES8, expected to arrive in early July, which should widen the SUV’s appeal beyond families that need six or seven seats.

For now, the current lineup includes six-seat and seven-seat configurations, both aimed at buyers who want a large electric SUV without compromising on comfort or everyday practicality.

Nio is not slowing down. Quite the opposite. The company is heading into a packed product cycle designed to keep it competitive in China’s fiercely crowded EV market. A new flagship SUV, the ES9, is set to be unveiled in the second quarter, with a technology event scheduled for April 9. Sales are expected to start in May, followed by deliveries on June 1.

Elsewhere in the group, the Onvo sub-brand will introduce an updated version of the L90 large electric SUV later this month, while Firefly is preparing an updated version of its only current model for April 7. And just yesterday, the main Nio brand rolled out refreshed 2026 versions of its so-called 5566 lineup: the ET5, ET5 Touring, ES6, and EC6.

The message is hard to miss. Nio is pushing on multiple fronts at once, using the ES8’s strong performance as both proof of demand and fuel for the road ahead.

So they pushed a 10k tax cut and low 20% downpay plan, is this real demand or promo-driven? if it's promo-led, deliveries may drop after offers end

90k in 195 days? wow, Nio's on fire. but will hype hold when ES9 lands... curious about margins tho, seems risky if market cools
