2026 Firefly Debuts With More Power and Fresh Style

Firefly has wasted no time giving its compact EV a sharper edge. On April 7, Nio’s 2026 Firefly officially went on sale, bringing a mild but meaningful round of updates to the design, cabin tech, and electric powertrain. The new lineup opens at 119,800 yuan, or about 17,400 USD, with the top trim priced at 125,800 yuan, roughly 18,200 USD. Buyers choosing the battery rental plan can lower the entry point to 79,800 yuan, around 11,600 USD.

The two versions are called Zizai, meaning Free, and Faguang, or Glow. Both sit in the sweet spot for urban EV shoppers who want something compact, efficient, and a little more polished than the average city runabout. And that is exactly where Firefly seems to be aiming.

A cleaner look, with a few clever flourishes

Visually, the 2026 model does not reinvent the Firefly formula, but it does sharpen it. A new Maillard-inspired paint finish joins the palette, taking cues from the orange-red brick tones of Porto’s old town. It is the kind of color that feels thoughtfully chosen rather than simply added for the sake of a brochure headline.

Other exterior changes include new star-track two-tone alloy wheels and a matte black lower front bumper. Some color options also get a spotted grey lower surround, giving the small EV a slightly more layered appearance. Dimensionally, it stays compact at 4,003 mm long, 1,781 mm wide, and 1,557 mm tall, with a 2,615 mm wheelbase. There is also a 92-liter front trunk, which should come in handy for everyday errands, and blue LED mirror indicators that light up when the car’s intelligent driver assistance systems are active.

Inside, the upgrades are more visible

The cabin is where the 2026 Firefly starts to feel more distinctly modern. Nio has added the Aster 1.4.0 infotainment system, along with a fresh set of features designed to make the car feel easier to live with. Among them are panoramic parking locator, Switch game screen casting, customizable lock sounds, Firefly band ambient lighting ring, intelligent parking offset adjustment, and reverse path tracing.

That is a lot for a small car, but the broader message is clear. Firefly wants to feel smart without becoming fussy. The interior also includes direct tire pressure monitoring, a hidden storage compartment for the front passenger, and auto-dimming mirrors with memory function. Small touches, yes, but the kind buyers notice every single day.

Power comes from a 120 kW electric motor, equal to 161 hp, which marks a healthy 15 kW or 20 hp increase over the previous version. The result is a 0 to 100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds, shaving two tenths off the outgoing model. Battery capacity remains unchanged at 42.1 kWh, with CLTC range rated at 420 km.

Firefly’s momentum is building, too. On March 29, the brand said cumulative deliveries had reached 50,000 units, a useful reminder that this is no longer just an upstart name on the EV scene. The 2026 update gives the model a stronger case, especially for drivers who want a compact electric car with better performance, smarter tech, and a more distinctive personality.

Looks neat, but 42.1 kWh and 120 kW motor seems ok, 0-100 in 7.9s is decent. Still feels a bit overhyped, performance bump small, and will the cabin tech age well? Exterior tweaks nice though, imo

Woah, that Maillard color tho, actually classy. 79,800 yuan w/ battery rental sounds almost too good, but 420km CLTC? I wanna see real world numbers... also that frunk is handy!
