SAIC’s MG4 is back in the spotlight, and this time it arrives with a sharper face, a smarter cabin, and a clear message: the brand is not playing catch-up anymore. The 2026 MG4 made its official debut on April 15, setting the stage for a public launch at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show.
The changes begin with the styling, but they do not stop there. The new MG4 keeps the familiar MG design DNA, yet the front end has been cleaned up and sharpened with sleeker headlights, a segmented lower lip, and a blacked-out bumper section that gives the car a lower, more planted look. There is also a small blue indicator light up front, a subtle but useful touch that signals the status of the driver assistance system.
From the side, the hatchback keeps its floating roof look and now rides on new 17-inch alloy wheels. Around the back, MG has stayed conservative. The rear still wears full-width taillights, a modest roof spoiler, and a tidy bumper design, all of which help the car retain the recognizable shape that has made the MG4 such a strong seller.

A cabin built to feel more premium
Inside, the 2026 MG4 takes a more ambitious step forward. New color choices such as Yacht Blue and Midnight Purple give the cabin a fresher mood, while music-reactive ambient lighting and hidden air vents create a cleaner, more modern atmosphere. The dashboard now features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a large 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen, and the layout feels much more in line with what buyers now expect from a tech-focused EV.
Technology is where MG appears to be pushing hardest. The new system runs on Doubao 3.0 AI, allowing drivers to ask questions and control vehicle functions using natural speech. Four-zone voice recognition means occupants in different seats can issue commands at the same time, and the car can respond by adjusting the sunroof, climate control, or entertainment settings. Oppo smartphone integration also brings a smoother link between the car and mobile apps, which should matter to buyers who live through their phones.

Comfort has not been left behind. The front seats offer eight-point massage, heating, and ventilation, while the front passenger seat gets a four-way electric leg rest. In the back, MG says the seat cushion measures 571 mm, a figure that suggests this hatchback is being positioned as more than just a city commuter.
On the assistance side, the MG4 uses Horizon Robotics’ L2+ intelligent driving package. On highways, the system supports navigation on autopilot, including lane keeping, automatic overtaking, and lane changes prompted by the turn signal. Parking technology has also been expanded, with features such as automatic front-in parking, custom parking mode, parking speed adjustment, dead-end road parking, low-speed space detection, and smartphone-based parking visualization.
Under the skin, the 2026 MG4 will be offered with both pure electric and liquid-solid-state battery versions. The standard EV uses a motor rated at 120 kW, or 161 hp, and 250 Nm of torque. Buyers will be able to choose between 42.8 kWh and 53.9 kWh battery packs, with CLTC driving ranges of 437 km and 530 km respectively. The liquid-solid-state battery variant is said to start at 510 km of range, which makes it the more intriguing option for buyers watching closely as battery technology evolves.

Charging should be quick enough to keep the car practical in daily use. MG says the 2026 MG4 supports 3C fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 30 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes. The car also gets DP-EPS dual-pinion electric power steering, a setup that promises sharper response than a conventional column-type system.
The timing of this update is not accidental. When the current MG4 launched last September, it pulled in 26,000 orders in just 15 days. Since then, it has regularly posted monthly sales of more than 10,000 units in China, with February standing out only because of the Lunar New Year holiday. That kind of momentum explains why SAIC is clearly aiming higher with this new version. The 2026 MG4 is not just a refresh. It is a signal that MG wants to keep one of its most important EV nameplates moving fast.

Looks flashy, but 4-zone voice recognition? who talks to car that much lol. If liquid-solid battery holds up then... maybe I'll be convinced 🤔

Wow, MG actually leveled up. Sleeker face, huge screen, voice AI sounds wild... 18min 30->80% charging? if real, def game changer, but curious about battery longevity
