Audi’s AUDI Brand Gets More Models in China

AUDI has barely had time to prove itself in China, yet Audi is already doubling down. That alone says a lot. After a shaky start, price cuts, and softer-than-hoped sales, the German automaker is still pressing ahead with its Chinese EV offshoot, and it’s doing so with more models, deeper local engineering, and a strong dose of artificial intelligence.

The brand arrived in 2025 with the E5 Sportback, a sleek electric fastback built specifically for China. Now the E7X crossover is set to make its debut at Auto China later this month, while a third model is already penciled in for 2027. Audi has been coy about that one, though earlier hints suggest it may be a sporty limousine.

More than just another EV lineup

What makes this move more interesting is the scale of the partnership behind it. Audi and SAIC are not just sharing a badge and moving on. Their latest agreement covers the full value chain for future AUDI models, including research and development, with a dedicated AUDI Innovation & Technology Center planned for Shanghai.

That center will be led by Audi and will focus on China-specific smart electrification technologies, along with full vehicle development for the next generation of intelligent connected cars. In plain English, Audi wants these cars to feel local, look local, and compete directly with the best homegrown EVs in the market.

The companies have kept the technical details close to the chest, but they have confirmed that buyers can expect AI-powered smart cabins designed to feel immersive rather than gimmicky. Advanced driver assistance systems tailored for Chinese customers are also part of the plan, which is a clear sign that Audi is trying to build products around local expectations instead of simply exporting a global formula.

Four new AUDI models are now on the way over the coming years. It remains unclear whether that count includes the 2027 model, but either way, the rollout is expanding. All of the upcoming vehicles will ride on the next-generation Advanced Digitized Platform, with Audi saying they will extend and complement its existing lineup.

Audi Chairman Gernot Döllner put it bluntly: the company wants to stay relevant in China as the industry shifts deeper into the intelligent connected vehicle era. He said the partnership with SAIC and the AUDI NEV brand has already helped Audi reach new buyers, and that the next step is building a dedicated innovation hub with SAIC to push its China strategy further.

That is the real story here. This is not a retreat. It is a recalibration. Audi may be stumbling a little with AUDI, but it clearly sees the Chinese EV market as too important to walk away from. And with new models, local development, and AI-heavy interiors on the horizon, the brand is betting that the next chapter will land better than the first.

Wow Audi doubling down in China... bold move. If they nail AI cabins and local dev, could be huge 🤔 Execution though, thats the real test.

AI cabins, local engineering ok... but is Audi just trying to dodge tariffs or actually make cars Chinese buyers want? sounds risky, tbh
