2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV Brings Luxury Into Orbit

5 Minutes

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has always played a familiar trick: take the prestige of a larger luxury sedan and distill it into a more manageable shape. For 2027, that formula goes electric, and the result looks far more ambitious than a simple battery swap.

Mercedes is clearly aiming high here. The new C-Class EV is being pitched as the sportiest C-Class ever, yet it still promises the kind of calm, velvet-edged ride that has long defined the brand. If that balance holds up on the road, this could be one of the most convincing electric sedans in its class.

A new face for the electric era

This is not just the old C-Class with a charging port. Mercedes has given the EV a completely different presence, with a bold front end and a rear design that ties it to the company’s latest styling language. It looks like a car that wants to be noticed, which is exactly the point in a market crowded with clean, cautious EVs.

For now, Mercedes has revealed only the C400 4Matic version, and it comes well loaded. Inside, the cabin leans hard into the brand’s traditional luxury playbook, but with a heavy dose of digital theater. Nappa leather, premium trim choices, and a dashboard dominated by a seamless screen setup make the interior feel more flagship than compact sedan.

The visual centerpiece is hard to miss. A 12.3-inch driver display, a 17.7-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch passenger screen sit beneath one continuous pane of glass. It is the kind of dashboard layout that looks tailor-made for people who like their cars to feel a little futuristic before they even start moving.

Under the skin, the C400 4Matic uses a dual-motor setup producing 482 horsepower, with all-wheel drive coming standard. Mercedes says the rear motor does most of the work, while the front motor steps in when extra traction or power is needed. At steady highway speeds, the front unit disconnects to help improve efficiency. Clever stuff.

The claimed 0 to 60 mph time is 3.9 seconds. That puts it right in the fight with serious rivals such as the BMW i4 xDrive40 and the Audi A6 e-tron, and it gives the Mercedes enough straight-line punch to match its premium badge.

Range should be one of the C-Class EV’s strongest cards. Mercedes is targeting about 400 miles on the EPA cycle, based on figures from Europe’s WLTP testing, which is usually far kinder to EVs. If that estimate proves close, this sedan could become a standout for buyers who want luxury without the usual range anxiety.

Charging looks equally promising. The C-Class EV rides on Mercedes-Benz’s new 800-volt architecture and uses a 94-kWh battery pack. At an 800-volt fast charger, Mercedes claims peak DC charging speeds of up to 330 kW, which could add as much as 202 miles of range in 10 minutes. A DC converter is also included, allowing charging at 400-volt Tesla Supercharger stations.

Mercedes has not forgotten the practical side either. Cargo space is listed at 16.6 cubic feet, which is a healthy increase over the gas-powered C-Class. Rear passengers should benefit from the longer wheelbase too, with slightly more headroom than the standard model. Add the optional panoramic roof, complete with 162 illuminated stars, and the back seat starts to feel more special than expected in this segment.

The tech story continues with plenty of everyday convenience. The infotainment system supports voice control, touch input, and steering-wheel controls, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. When the car is parked, occupants can even stream video through apps such as YouTube and Disney+. Mercedes also offers two head-up displays, including an upgraded version with augmented-reality guidance.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV is shaping up to be more than a quiet entry into the electric luxury crowd. It wants to be fast, efficient, richly appointed, and just a little dramatic. That is a very Mercedes approach, and if the driving experience lives up to the promise, the competition may have a proper problem on its hands.

Interesting tech, but WLTP->EPA conversions are sketchy. 400 miles sounds optimistic — is Mercedes hiding the real EPA number? if that's true then wow, otherwise seems hyped.

Whoa, 400 miles? If Merc actually pulls that off in a sporty, comfy sedan I'm kinda blown away. 3.9s?? Nice. Interior looks a bit flashy tho, maybe too much screen, but if the drive lives up to it then...
