Zeekr 009 Gets a Major Upgrade Ahead of May 19

Zeekr is not playing it safe with the new 009. The Chinese premium EV brand has locked in May 19 for the official debut of its revamped Zeekr 009 MPV, a model that has already become one of the more closely watched names in the high end electric people mover segment.

Test drives will begin on May 9, giving potential buyers an early look at what Zeekr clearly sees as a serious statement of intent. This is more than a routine facelift. The updated 009 is being positioned as a next generation flagship, built to strengthen the brand’s hold on China’s increasingly crowded premium electric MPV market.

Pre sales opened on April 24 during the first day of the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, although Zeekr stopped short of revealing official pre sale pricing. For context, the outgoing Zeekr 009 starts at around €56,900, putting it firmly in luxury territory and signaling that this model is aimed at buyers who expect performance, presence, and executive grade comfort in one package.

The refreshed lineup includes three versions: a seven seat Ultra, a seven seat Ultra+, and a six seat Ultra+ Executive. The range has been tailored for affluent customers who want more than simple transport. Zeekr is targeting families, business users, and chauffeur driven owners who see the MPV as a rolling lounge rather than just a practical box on wheels.

Luxury, speed, and serious electrical muscle

The entry level seven seat Ultra rides on an 800 volt high voltage platform and uses CATL’s 108 kWh Qilin battery. It also gets an Nvidia Drive Thor U assisted driving chip, paired with Zeekr’s latest smart driving system. That alone tells you where the brand wants to compete: not just on cabin luxury, but on software, computing power, and next wave EV architecture.

Step up to the seven seat Ultra+ or the six seat Ultra+ Executive, and the hardware becomes even more ambitious. Both move to a 900 volt high voltage architecture and pack dual motors producing 680 kW. That is a huge figure for an MPV, the kind of output once reserved for performance flagships rather than luxury shuttles.

The six seat Executive version leans hardest into the comfort brief, adding Sofaro first class aviation seats. It is the sort of feature designed to appeal to buyers who spend long hours being driven and want the rear cabin to feel closer to a private jet than a family van.

Despite its size and luxury focus, the new Zeekr 009 is no slouch. Top speed is rated at 220 km/h, while range is listed between 720 km and 740 km, depending on version. Those numbers matter. In a segment where buyers increasingly demand everything at once, long range, fast charging capability, strong acceleration, and premium comfort are no longer optional extras. They are the baseline.

The 009 has been an important model for Zeekr since the original version broke cover on November 1, 2022, with customer deliveries starting on January 15, 2023. It was the brand’s second production model, and over time it has received several updates as Zeekr sharpened its identity in the premium EV space.

This latest overhaul feels different, though. It looks less like a mid cycle refresh and more like a deliberate push to keep rivals at arm’s length. China’s premium electric market moves fast, and standing still is often the quickest route to irrelevance. With the new 009, Zeekr seems determined to stay ahead by throwing more technology, more luxury, and more outright capability into a format that is suddenly becoming one of the most hotly contested corners of the EV world.

Is 740 km range even real? Under what test cycle.. 220 km/h for an MPV, sure on paper. I wanna see real world charging times, winter range and if those 'executive' seats actually feel like first class

Wow Zeekr went full flagship with the 009! 680 kW, 900V platform, Sofaro first-class seats, insane. If the cabin lives up it could flip the segment. Price, charging and long term reliability will tell…
