A new report from South Korea suggests Samsung will keep using the Galaxy S25's camera modules on the upcoming Galaxy S26. Instead of new sensors, the vanilla S26 looks set to retain the same triple‑camera hardware as its predecessor.
Same optics, new strategy
According to The Elec, the Galaxy S26 will stick with a 50MP main sensor (1/1.56‑inch), a 10MP telephoto (1/3.94‑inch) with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide (1/2.55‑inch). That mirrors the setup first introduced on the Galaxy S23 and carried forward into the S24 and S25.
Samsung reportedly had plans to step up sensor specs for the S26, but a late change of strategy was triggered by Apple. The iPhone 17 upgraded its base model with a 120Hz ProMotion LTPO OLED and doubled entry storage to 256GB while keeping the price at $799. Faced with that move, Samsung is said to have pulled back on camera upgrades to meet the same entry price point.

That pivot isn’t just about specs. Reworking the internal layout to preserve the $799 starting price has forced Samsung to redesign some internal components, and that ripple effect is expected to push back production for the non‑Ultra models.
- Camera configuration: 50MP main, 10MP 3x telephoto, 12MP ultrawide
- Reason for change: price pressure after iPhone 17 announcement
- Production timeline: S26 Ultra entering mass production this month; S26 and S26+ manufacturing now expected in early 2026
So for buyers hoping the vanilla S26 would bring a camera leap, this report suggests a more iterative update instead — while Samsung focuses upgrades and timing on higher‑end models like the Ultra. The situation highlights how competitor moves can reshape product roadmaps and launch plans at the last minute.
