Clio Williams returns — in pixels
A new digital rendering imagines the sixth-generation Renault Clio as a modern Clio Williams pocket rocket. Created by designer David Baylis (@davidbaylisdesign), the CGI concept channels the spirit of the early-1990s Clio Williams — the hot hatch that became an icon for Renault Sport — but translates it into a 2026-era supermini with brutal styling and performance upgrades.
The artwork isn’t an official Renault project. Still, it’s a compelling vision: aggressive aero, deep-dish wheels, and hints of motorsport DNA applied to the new Clio’s sculpted body. For fans of hot hatches, the render raises an enticing question: what if Renault resurrected the Williams badge for this generation?

Design highlights
The concept leans hard into visual drama while staying recognizable as a Clio. Key styling changes compared with the stock 2025/2026 Clio include:
- Slimmed, meaner headlights and reinterpreted daytime running lights
- Longer hood and a reshaped, aggressive front bumper with a more prominent grille
- Muscular wheel arches and pronounced side skirts
- A large fixed wing, tweaked taillights and a pronounced diffuser at the rear
Rendered in a deep purple with exposed carbon fiber accents and gold V-spoke wheels wrapped in Michelin rubber, the car looks track-ready. Large round tailpipes and an RS badge on the tailgate complete the aggressive aesthetic.
Chassis and interior cues
Baylis’ concept also imagines mechanical upgrades: a lowered ride height, upgraded brakes, and more supportive bucket seats. These elements suggest the car is built not just to look fast but to handle harder cornering and spirited driving.

Performance: wild speculation or plausible dream?
The most eye-catching claim in the render: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing around 300 horsepower, sent to the rear axle via a traditional six-speed manual. The designer puts the imagined curb weight just under 1.5 tonnes (roughly 3,300 lb).
While 300 hp is far above the production Clio’s mainstream outputs, it’s not fantasy in an era of downsized performance engines, hybrid tuning and boutique hot-hatch tuners. A 2.0L turbo or a high-output naturally aspirated engine combined with weight-saving measures could theoretically deliver a similar experience — though Renault would have to decide whether such a halo model fits its commercial and emissions strategy.
How it compares to the original Clio Williams
The original Clio Williams emerged in the early 1990s with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter rated at about 145 hp and quickly became a collector’s favorite. Renault initially planned a limited run of 3,800 units but ended up producing over 12,000 across multiple series. Today, prices vary widely depending on condition, from roughly €15,000–€25,000 up to €75,000 for concours examples.

This CGI version isn’t trying to be a faithful mechanical homage so much as a modern reinterpretation: more power, racier stance, and contemporary styling while keeping the Williams spirit — nimble, driver-focused and slightly mischievous.
Market positioning and realism
Would Renault build this? It’s uncertain. Brand strategy, emissions targets and product planning would all play a role. If Renault wished to create a halo car to excite enthusiasts and boost the Clio line’s image, a limited-run Clio RS Williams with bespoke engineering could be viable — perhaps as a lightweight, high-performance model or even a mild hybrid to meet regulations.

Highlights:
- Designer: David Baylis (digital concept)
- Imagined engine: 2.0L, ~300 hp
- Transmission: 6-speed manual to rear axle (concept)
- Styling: aggressive aero, carbon accents, lowered chassis
This rendering is a reminder that the Clio’s performance heritage still resonates. Whether Renault will ever revive the Williams name in a modern, factory-built pocket rocket remains to be seen — but fan-made concepts like this keep the conversation alive.

Is Renault really gonna do a 300hp 2.0, manual to the rear? Looks epic but regs, weight and price tell me this is more tuner dream than showroom reality. still curious

wow that purple Clio Williams concept hits different! 300 hp in a pocket rocket? mad styling, retro vibes… but hope they dont ruin practicality, still kinda salivating lol
