Huawei has unveiled the nova 15 family in China: three midrange phones—the nova 15, nova 15 Pro and nova 15 Ultra—featuring a new dual-ring design, upgraded cameras, faster chips and larger batteries. The lineup leans into premium camera hardware and long battery life while keeping HarmonyOS 6.0 front and center.
What’s new in the nova 15 lineup
The nova 15 Pro and nova 15 Ultra share the headline hardware upgrades: a 6.84-inch LTPO OLED panel with a flexible 1–120Hz refresh rate, a high 1,320 × 2,856 resolution, Kunlun glass protection and extreme local brightness that peaks at 4,000 nits. A pill-shaped cutout holds a 50MP front camera plus a 1.5MP multispectral sensor for improved color capture.

Huawei’s new dual-ring camera module marks the aesthetic shift across the series. The nova 15 Ultra is the most camera-focused model with three 50MP RYYB sensors. Its main shooter uses a variable aperture (f/1.4–f/4.0) with OIS for flexible low-light and depth control, while a periscope telephoto delivers about 3.7x optical zoom and there’s an ultrawide with a wide 118° field of view.
The nova 15 Pro tones things down slightly but still packs strong optics: a 50MP RYYB main sensor with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, a 12MP RYYB telephoto and a 13MP RYYB ultrawide. Both Pro and Ultra carry robust dust and water resistance ratings (IP68 and IP69).
Performance, battery and software
Under the hood, the nova 15 Pro and Ultra run Huawei’s new Kirin 9010S chipset, which the company says offers roughly an 18% performance uplift over the Kirin 8020 found in earlier models. Both support satellite connectivity and boot HarmonyOS 6.0 out of the box.

Battery life is a major selling point: the Pro and Ultra use 6,500mAh silicon-carbon cells with 100W wired charging, and the Ultra adds 50W wireless charging. The standard nova 15 uses a 6,000mAh battery with 100W wired charging and keeps IP65 protection.
Nova 15 — the balanced option
The vanilla nova 15 sits on a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a single punch-hole 50MP selfie camera. On the rear you’ll find a 50MP RYYB main sensor, a 12MP RYYB telephoto module and a 1.5MP multispectral color sensor. It runs on the Kirin 8020 chipset—the same SoC used in last year’s Pro models—which Huawei claims brings up to a 42% uplift versus the older Kirin 8000 chip. The phone also supports satellite connectivity.

Pricing and availability
Huawei opened pre-orders in China via Vmall with the series shipping from December 27. Prices start in yuan as follows: nova 15 from CNY 2,699 (~$380), nova 15 Pro from CNY 3,499 (~$490) and nova 15 Ultra starting around CNY 2,999 (~$420) with a top 1TB Ultra configuration priced at CNY 4,999 (~$700). Exact SKUs and global availability have not been announced.

In short: Huawei’s nova 15 series leans into camera innovation and battery endurance, adding a striking dual-ring look and incremental performance gains—an appealing package for users who want advanced imaging without stepping into flagship price territory.

Wait, did I miss something, Ultra base cheaper than Pro? Seems backwards or maybe weird preorder bundles. Also, who actually gets HarmonyOS outside China??

Whoa, 4,000 nits on a midranger?? The dual ring looks slick, that variable aperture sounds wild. Battery life and camera focus make this tempting, but global availability?? hmm
