Nine-day inflow streak to U.S. Bitcoin ETFs breaks

U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded a net outflow of $201.9 million on August 28, snapping a nine-day run of inflows that had signaled strong institutional demand. The pullback coincided with Bitcoin sliding toward the $77,500 price area, intensifying short-term market concern.

Where the money moved: fund-level details

Data from Farside Investors shows Ark 21Shares’ ARKB led redemptions with $114.9 million of outflows. Bitwise’s BITB shed $49.7 million, while BlackRock’s IBIT recorded $33.4 million in net outflows. VanEck’s HODL saw $13.2 million exit. On the other side, Morgan Stanley’s MSBT attracted $9.3 million in inflows. Several other listed Bitcoin ETFs reported little to no net change.

Daily rotation and weekly context

The one-day reversal was sharp: daily ETF flows rotated by $444.2 million compared with a $242.3 million inflow in the prior session. Still, the weekly picture remained positive—total net inflows across the August 24–28 trading week reached $924.5 million. Analysts caution that a single day of outflows does not necessarily indicate a sustained shift in institutional behavior; confirmation would require consecutive sessions of redemptions.

Macro backdrop and market reaction

Pressure on BTC intensified after speeches at the Jackson Hole symposium, including comments that raised concerns about persistent inflation and the prospect of tighter monetary policy from the Federal Reserve. Higher interest rates typically reduce the appeal of volatile assets such as cryptocurrencies, which can exacerbate outflows from Bitcoin ETFs.

Technical levels and short-term outlook

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin traded near $77,500, down roughly 2.9% over 24 hours. Traders are watching the $76,500–$77,000 zone as the immediate short-term support. A decisive break below this range could accelerate selling pressure and push the market into a deeper corrective phase. Conversely, renewed ETF inflows and a stabilization of macro expectations could restore demand from institutional investors.

Investors tracking this space should monitor daily ETF flow data, macro policy signals, and on-chain indicators to gauge whether the ETF outflows are a temporary rotation or the start of a broader shift in institutional appetite for Bitcoin.
