BitMine expands ETH holdings and accelerates buybacks
BitMine Immersion Technologies continued to grow its Ethereum treasury last week, buying 9,946 ETH as markets rallied and ETH reclaimed the $1,900 level. The purchases are part of a sustained accumulation strategy that began earlier in 2026 and coincided with a stepped-up program of share repurchases for BMNR stock.
Weekly purchase lifts BitMine closer to 5% ETH target
The latest acquisition increased BitMine’s total holdings to roughly 5,787,414 ETH (about 5.79 million ETH), representing approximately 4.8% of Ethereum’s circulating supply. That places the company near its stated objective of owning 5% of all ETH, a milestone that would further consolidate its role among institutional crypto treasuries.
BitMine’s buying pattern shows escalation from prior weeks — the firm purchased 7,430 ETH the week before — and reflects increased confidence as Ethereum climbed to its strongest level in about ten weeks. Most of the treasury is not idle: BitMine has staked 4,917,189 ETH, which equals roughly 85% of its ETH holdings and generates ongoing staking rewards that contribute to the company’s cash flows.
Staking amplifies returns on the treasury but also increases valuation sensitivity to ETH price moves. As a result, shifts in the broader crypto market or a rapid ETH drawdown would materially affect BitMine’s balance sheet and the value of BMNR equity.

Share buybacks rise amid stronger ETH/BTC ratio
Alongside crypto accumulation, BitMine repurchased 6.1 million BMNR shares last week, up from 5.5 million the prior week. Cumulative buybacks under the company’s $4 billion repurchase program now total 11.6 million shares.
Chairman Tom Lee tied the larger buyback cadence to the improving ETH-to-Bitcoin ratio, which recently hit a three-month high of 0.3000. Management and some technical strategists view this ratio as a positive indicator for Ethereum’s relative strength versus Bitcoin, and potential upside for ETH prices.
Lee and advisor Tom DeMark have highlighted near-term price zones for Ethereum at $2,000 and $2,500, contingent on continued market recovery. Those targets rely on analogies to historical market behavior and technical comparisons — and would become more likely if ETH sustains momentum versus both Bitcoin and equities.
Risks tied to treasury strategy and market volatility
Despite the bullish narrative, BitMine’s strategy concentrates exposure in ETH and staking positions. A broad crypto market decline or a sudden drop in ETH would reduce staking yields in dollar terms and could pressure BMNR stock. Investors in BMNR gain indirect ETH exposure but also face company-specific risks, including operational, governance, and capital-structure effects from ongoing buybacks.
BMNR stock reaction and technical outlook
BMNR shares closed at $17.51 on July 27, rising 10.89% that session after trading in a $16.67–$18.02 range. The stock has held above a rising support trendline since late June and closed above its 20-day and 50-day simple moving averages, signaling short-term technical improvement.
However, BMNR still faces resistance near the 100-day moving average at $18.95. Clearing that level on strong volume would likely bolster the recovery and put the $20 zone in view. The 200-day average remains substantially higher, around $26.13, and would require a sustained upward leg to approach.

Bitmine price daily chart
Technical momentum metrics remain muted: the average directional index (ADX) sits at 17.22, below the 20 threshold commonly associated with strong trends. That suggests the current rebound has not yet developed into a durable directional move, leaving room for consolidation or short-term pullbacks.
Institutional interest and implications for U.S. investors
Institutional flows are increasingly visible. ARK Invest, led by Cathie Wood, recently added 5,264 BMNR shares via the ARK Innovation ETF, allocating about $251,500 across BitMine and related crypto staking ETFs through multiple funds. Such allocations highlight growing institutional appetite for regulated equity exposure to crypto treasuries and staking businesses.
For U.S. equity investors, BMNR provides a regulated avenue to gain ETH exposure combined with the leverage of corporate treasury management and share repurchase programs. That dual exposure means BMNR performance will track Ethereum price trends as well as company-specific returns from staking yield and capital return mechanisms.
Outlook: milestones to watch
Key near-term indicators to monitor include BitMine’s progress toward the 5% ETH supply threshold and BMNR’s ability to clear the $18.95 100-day moving average. A move above either milestone could strengthen investor sentiment and extend the rally. Conversely, a prolonged market pullback would pressure both the value of BitMine’s ETH holdings and demand for BMNR shares.
Overall, BitMine’s aggressive accumulation and buyback strategy underscores an institutional playbook centered on crypto treasury management and shareholder returns. Traders and long-term crypto investors should weigh the potential rewards from staking income and ETH appreciation against concentrated asset exposure and macro-driven volatility.

Staking 85% of holdings is punchy. big yield upside, but also massive beta to ETH price, feels overhyped, hedge pls or prepare for nasty drawdowns.
Wait 9,946 ETH + 6.1M buybacks in one week? is this even true or PR spin... If ETH dumps, BMNR holders get burned right??
