Huawei MatePad Air Z: 12-inch 144Hz PaperMatte 10,100mAh

Huawei's new MatePad Air Z ships with a 12-inch PaperMatte 2.8K display running at 144 Hz and a 10,100 milliampere-hour battery.

Huawei introduced the MatePad Air Z in two versions, standard and Enjoy Edition, and has opened preorders in China. The company has not confirmed a final release date; Huawei indicated additional details may appear alongside the Mate 90 series unveiling.

The tablet is powered by a Kirin T93S23 chipset and runs HarmonyOS 7, and the front of the device uses a PaperMatte panel that Huawei says reduces ambient reflections while offering an 88 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The PaperMatte display is 12 inches with a 2.8K resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate. Huawei describes the panel as minimising environmental glare. The device pairs the chipset and operating system with a six-speaker audio system, an 8-megapixel front camera, and a 50-megapixel rear camera.

Design differences and charging

Huawei says the visible and technical differences between the two models are limited to the camera module design and charging speed. The standard MatePad Air Z ships with a 66-watt charger, while the Enjoy Edition is supplied with a 40-watt charger. Both versions share the same 10,100 mAh battery capacity.

Pricing and configurations

The standard model starts at 3,699 yuan (551 dollars) for an 8 GB/256 GB configuration and tops out at 4,999 yuan (744 dollars) for the variant equipped with 12 GB of RAM. The Enjoy Edition begins at 2,999 yuan (446 dollars) for 8 GB/128 GB and reaches 4,499 yuan (670 dollars) for the 12 GB/256 GB configuration.

Preorders for both versions are live in China; Huawei has not specified when the MatePad Air Z will reach broader availability.
