Nissan Australia is marking 25 years of the X-Trail in the market by widening the line-up with front-wheel-drive e-Power hybrids and a new Rock Creek trim. The compact crossover, sold as the Rogue in North America, arrived in Australia in October 2001 and has since moved close to 340,000 units, becoming Nissan's best-selling nameplate there. This update is timed to broaden choice within the current T33 generation that arrived in 2023.

Introduced to Australia in 2023, the T33 X-Trail brought a roomier cabin and a raft of safety and convenience systems along with Nissan's e-Power system. In e-Power variants the wheels are driven only by an electric motor while a gasoline engine functions solely as a generator to recharge the battery; this is a series-hybrid arrangement rather than a conventional parallel hybrid.

Front-wheel-drive e-Power expands hybrid choice

For the 2026 model year Nissan is adding front-wheel-drive e-Power versions of the ST-L, Ti and Ti-L grades. Nissan says the front-wheel-drive e-Power models deliver about 11.5% better fuel economy than the all-wheel-drive e-Power versions. The front-wheel-drive e-Power options are priced AU$3,090 to AU$3,665 (MSRP) below their equivalent AWD variants, making Nissan's hybrid system accessible to more buyers.

Rock Creek brings rugged styling and added equipment

The Rock Creek is a new, adventure-focused variant based on the seven-seat gasoline all-wheel-drive ST-L grade. It adopts distinct exterior detailing including a black V-motion grille, black roof rails, gloss-black door mirrors, a dedicated front lower bumper and unique 18-inch alloy wheels. Orange accents appear on the front and rear badges and the wheel rims, and the grille receives a three-slot horizontal motif that Nissan says is inspired by the D21 pickup and the current Navara. A new Baja Storm exterior paint with a black roof is also available.

Inside, Rock Creek receives ballistic nylon-trimmed seats embroidered with Rock Creek badging, orange contrast stitching across the seats and dashboard trim, and an orange badge accent on the steering wheel. The trim also gains additional technology over its donor grade, including a 10.8-inch head-up display and a 12.3-inch full TFT instrument cluster.

Pricing for the 2026 Nissan X-Trail Rock Creek starts at AU$48,315 (MSRP), which Nissan cites as about $34,000 at the current exchange rate and represents a AU$2,435 premium over the ST-L 4WD grade. Steve Milette, Managing Director of Nissan Oceania, said, "X-Trail has been a part of Australian families' lives for 25 years, and its enduring success comes down to one thing: evolving with what our customers want. Today, we're giving Australians more reasons to choose X-Trail, with the introduction of front-wheel-drive e-Power and the new Rock Creek."

Commenting specifically on the Rock Creek, Milette added, “Rock Creek pairs genuine, rugged attitude with seven-seat practicality, and gives X-TRAIL a distinctive new character at the adventurous end of the range.”

FWD e-Power saves ~11.5% and about 3k off the price, smart move. But does it still feel EV-like or just a generator car? curious about real world mpg, resale..

Wow didn't expect FWD e-Power to cut fuel use that much... Rock Creek looks ace, but is it just orange trim and badges? if that's real then curious about towing, boot space
