ChatGPT Pro Max reportedly to cost over $500 per month

OpenAI is reportedly preparing a ChatGPT Pro Max subscription that would cost more than $500 per month, a figure that could reach around $600 with local taxes or value added tax. The company has not announced the plan formally, but subscription pages briefly showed a Pro Max option alongside Plus and the current Pro tier.

The listing described the primary benefit of the new level as access to "the fastest capabilities in Work and Codex." The provisional interface also listed maximum memory capacity, 100 gigabytes of file storage, early access to new features, and priority access to OpenAI's most powerful advanced models.

Features, infrastructure and audience

According to the subscription UI, the Pro Max tier is aimed at professional users, researchers, and developers running long or automated workloads. The company material noted that while routine tasks complete quickly, complex programming work using Codex can take hours or even days, and that higher processing speed would reduce wall-clock time for such jobs.

Reports say OpenAI would rely on specialized Cerebras infrastructure to deliver those higher throughput and low-latency processing levels. OpenAI already uses Cerebras hardware for workloads that require very low latency.

The timing of the leak coincides with recent operational adjustments at OpenAI. The company recently paused new enrollments and upgrades to its $200 Pro plan after systems experienced heavy demand. If priced at $500, the Pro Max tier would sit above competing paid plans such as $200 options from Anthropic and Cursor and Google’s AI Ultra at $250, a positioning that OpenAI appears to expect developers will pay for.
