Qualcomm may be preparing official DirectX 12 support for its flagship Snapdragon chips, a change reported on 25 September 2026 that aims to improve PC game emulation on Android.

DirectX 12 testing on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6

A Chinese YouTuber reported testing the capability on a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 reference device and successfully ran Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong through a translation layer in DirectX 12 mode. The report indicates the tests used a DirectX translation layer to render PC-focused titles on the Android device.

Rollout uncertainty and driver update questions

Qualcomm has not confirmed whether DirectX 12 support will extend beyond its current flagship to other system-on-chips. It is also unclear whether Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 units would receive the feature as a driver update; the report notes any driver deployment may depend on smartphone makers. If implemented, the change could make emulating PC games on Android much easier. Stay tuned for more on the topic in the coming weeks and months.
