Imagine unwrapping a foldable that looks like a glimpse of the future — and then hesitating at the price. That’s the mood around vivo’s next foldable as a new leak spreads across Chinese social channels just days before the June 26 launch.

Pre-orders are already live in China and vivo has confirmed core specs, but a circulating image now points to sticker shock: the base vivo X Fold6 with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage could start at about €1,300. If those figures hold, we’re looking at a steep leap from the previous generation.

When premium hardware collides with rising costs

The X Fold5 launched at roughly €910 for the same memory layout. So this rumored jump lands near a 43 percent increase. Why such a climb? The leak doesn’t offer a single smoking gun, but the device’s spec sheet does a lot of talking: a 7,000 mAh battery, IPX8 and IPX9 water resilience, the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition chipset, and OriginOS 6 Fold. That kind of engineering — especially a bigger flexible display and an upgraded hinge — adds up fast.

More tiers appear in the leak. The 12GB/512GB model is shown at about €1,430. Stepping up to 16GB/512GB is listed near €1,495, and the 16GB/1TB option reaches around €1,625. Those price bands place the X Fold6 firmly in the premium bracket, competing with the top foldables from other brands in both capability and cost.

Hardware highlights feel purposeful. An 8.02-inch inner flexible screen suggests vivo wants a true tablet-like experience when unfolded, while a beefy 200MP main camera and a periscope telephoto using Sony’s LYT-602 sensor signal a camera-first strategy for a foldable device. Add an upgraded hinge and the promise of better longevity, and the package begins to justify a higher number — at least on paper.

Color choices in the leak read like an attempt to balance showmanship and subtlety: Blue Hole, Black Gold Edition, Salt Lake, and Polar Night. Each variant seems aimed at a slightly different buyer persona, from fashion-forward to business-minded.

But not every buyer will be convinced. Foldables already ask consumers to compromise somewhere — weight, cost, or app optimization. When a generation-over-generation price jump exceeds 40 percent, the question becomes less about specs and more about perceived value. Will the larger battery and flagship camera convince existing X Fold owners to upgrade? Will newcomers trade a slab-style flagship for the foldable premium?
