Xiaomi will let users create AI-powered apps that run on the rear display of the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro series, the company showed in a short teaser video shared on Weibo. The clip offered a first look at the "versatile rear display" Xiaomi had promised. Reported 16 September 2026 by Siddharth.
What the teaser showed
The video demonstrates AI apps designed for specific, bite-sized tasks that appear directly on the rear screen. Examples include drinking water reminders, egg cooking timers, recipe recommendations and tools for learning new English words. That contrasts with the rear display on the Xiaomi 17 Pro series, which was limited to showing select widgets and a set of pre-installed app cards.

Xiaomi also said it has partnered with several brands in China to offer custom app cards for the Xiaomi 18 Pro series' rear display. The company did not expand on which partners will participate or on the technical details for developers in the teaser.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are set to debut in China later this month. The phones are rumored to be powered by Qualcomm's yet to be announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, a detail presented as a rumor rather than a confirmed specification.
