Xiaomi 18 Pro Max to pack 8,500mAh; launch Sept 23

The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will ship with an 8,500mAh battery, Xiaomi confirmed in a teaser poster for its upcoming launch.

The company said it will unveil the Xiaomi 18 Pro series at its autumn new product event on September 23 at 19:00 China time. The poster carried the headline "Full Upgrade" and highlighted five key features that Xiaomi says apply to both the Xiaomi 18 Pro and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, with battery capacity the principal difference between the two models.

Chip, camera and display

Xiaomi stated both phones will run a 2nm flagship mobile platform manufactured on a 2nm GAA process, and the company claims the chip will improve performance and power efficiency. Xiaomi has not disclosed the chip name; unconfirmed reports point to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. The launch falls during Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, running September 22 to 24, when further details could surface.

The teaser also confirms a Leica camera system using two 200MP sensors: one large-sensor main camera and a large-sensor periscope telephoto camera. Xiaomi described this as the most advanced Leica setup it has used on a numbered flagship series. Tipster Digital Chat Station previously shared real-world photos that suggested a 17mm to 75mm focal range and about 3.2x periscope zoom; Xiaomi has not confirmed those focal-range or zoom figures.

For the display, Xiaomi said the phones will use a new-generation Super Pixel panel incorporating an M11 light-emitting system and a new green light-emitting material, which the company says delivers higher brightness at lower power consumption. Xiaomi added it has reduced bezels to 0.99mm through a new screen packaging process.

Battery construction will use Xiaomi’s GSR VIII technology with 32 percent silicon content. The Xiaomi 18 Pro is listed with a 7,000mAh cell and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max with an 8,500mAh cell. The launch poster did not list charging speeds; a 3C certification filed in August showed 100W wired charging for two Xiaomi models believed to be part of the new series.
