Jeep's 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk gains a two-speed power transfer unit with a 2.92:1 low range and a 37.5:1 crawl ratio, marking the model's most explicit move toward genuine off-road capability.
The low-range gearing is paired with an electronically actuated mechanical rear locker, addressing the KM-series Cherokee's chief shortcoming since the sixth generation arrived for 2026: standard all-wheel drive but no low range or locking differentials. Jeep had signaled a more serious Trail Rated variant was coming; Trailhawk is that variant.

The Trailhawk's off-road upgrades are built around those two changes. The front suspension uses MacPherson struts while the rear is an integral-link design; the Trailhawk receives dedicated springs and dampers and rides one inch higher than other Cherokee trims for 2027. Ground clearance increases to 9.0 inches (nearly 230 millimeters), and Jeep says the suspension tuning raises the ramp travel index by 45 points over lesser Cherokee trims. Jeep defines the approach angle at 28.8 degrees, the breakover at 21.9 degrees, and the departure at 31.8 degrees, and quotes a water-fording depth of 24 inches (610 millimeters).

Protective hardware includes steel skid plates for the fuel tank, front axle, and wiring, plus dedicated armor for the hybrid traction battery. The Trailhawk rolls on Nexen Roadian ATX all-terrain tires fitted to 17-inch black machined alloy wheels and can be specified with a full-size spare.
Powertrain and capability
Under the hood the Trailhawk uses the same hybrid system as other 2027 Cherokees: a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder combined with a 400-volt hybrid architecture for a total output of 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet (312 Newton-meters). An eCVT power-split hybrid transmission is fitted, while Jeep Active Drive II manages automatic 4x4 engagement and includes a fully disconnecting 4x2 mode to improve fuel economy.

Jeep lists EPA figures of 33 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, for a combined rating of 31 mpg (7.6 liters per 100 kilometers). The Trailhawk is rated for 800 pounds (363 kilograms) of payload and 3,500 pounds (1,588 kilograms) of towing capacity. Three optional packages are offered, covering trailering equipment, upgraded audio, more glass area for additional cabin light, ventilated front seats, and other amenities.

The Cherokee Trailhawk brings low-range gearing and a rear locker to the hybridized Cherokee package while retaining the same 1.6-liter turbo hybrid powertrain.
Produced in Mexico, the 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk arrives at U.S. dealers soon with a starting price of $44,625, which includes a $1,995 destination charge.
