2027 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Nears Production

Spy photos taken near the Nordschleife by photographer Baldauf show the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series in near-production form.

The car wears revised production-intent bodywork and extensive aerodynamic hardware, including a dual-element swan-neck rear wing with integrated actuators that enable DRS functionality.

Mercedes-AMG positions the Black Series as the halo of the second-generation GT Coupe family under codename X192, distinct from the C192 designation used for other V8 GT Coupe models.

Changes appear engineered to provide a road-going homologation base for AMG's next GT3 competition vehicle rather than to mimic earlier GT3-style mules.

The front end shows vertical slats in the Panamericana grille, a redesigned bumper with motorsport-style canards, and a deeply sculpted hood with a central air scoop flanked by active louvers and fender winglets. Headlight clusters carry Mercedes-Benz's new three-pointed-star lighting signature.

The side profile exposes a pair of dual exhaust outlets routed just ahead of the rear wheels to free the underbody for aerodynamic devices. Large extraction channels behind the front wheels divert air across the door skins.

The prototype has switched from a motorsport-style fuel filler to a production-ready setup and runs massive Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires with oversized carbon-ceramic brakes and lightweight alloy wheels. Door frames and side glass show subtle reshaping.

The rear features the most extreme aero: the full-width dual-element wing mounts on robust swan-neck pylons that house actuators, an enlarged active rear spoiler, a small vertical fin on the rear glass for lateral stability, and an oversized diffuser with deep vanes to accelerate underbody airflow.

A mesh grid around the rear apron appears to relieve thermal stress. Slim taillight assemblies include the third brake light.

Official powertrain specifications remain secret. Mercedes-AMG Affalterbach is expected to use the flat-plane V8 introduced on the facelifted S-Class, the unit rated at 637 horsepower in the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, but it is likely to be tuned more aggressively for Black Series application. The first-generation AMG GT Black Series reached 720 horsepower in its specification.

Official specifications, final power figures and production timing have not been confirmed by Mercedes-AMG.
