Spy photos published September 17, 2026 show a Mercedes-AMG GT SUV prototype shedding more camouflage and appearing production-ready; Mercedes-AMG will unveil the model on October 17.

The test vehicle, internal code X591, exposes the side window line and a greenhouse that reveals the SUV's proportions and a pronounced taper from roofline to liftgate.

Wide wheel arches with heavy cladding, broad rear haunches and a long, stretched silhouette are visible. A detail behind the front wheels and vertical outlets below the A-pillars are clearly aerodynamic in purpose.

Rear lights appear to be production units with a starry signature, while the front lighting remains covered by makeshift units. Camouflage still obscures the bumper and diffuser details.

The GT SUV is closely related to the electric GT 4-Door Coupe, sharing the AMG.EA platform and 800-volt electrification. Mercedes-AMG plans tri- and twin-motor configurations.

At launch the flagship is expected to use three axial-flux motors, producing up to 1,153 horsepower in optimal conditions and an estimated peak torque of 1,475 lb-ft (2,000 Nm). Two disc-shaped motors are likely to sit on the rear axle with a third axial-flux motor driving the front wheels.

The high-voltage battery is expected to mirror the GT 4-Door Coupe's 106 kilowatt-hour pack using oil-cooled cylindrical cells and supporting charging at up to 600 kilowatts under suitable conditions.

AMG.EA technology on the related coupe includes air suspension with semi-active roll stabilization, AEROKINETICS active aerodynamic elements and 4MATIC+ with continuously variable torque distribution; the GT SUV is reported to adopt the same features.

The GT SUV will use an automated claw clutch to decouple the front axle under light loads for improved efficiency. Axial-flux motors are noted for being more compact and substantially lighter than radial-flux motors.
