Tesla is preparing a new Long Range rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version of the Model Y for the Chinese market that promises an impressive single-charge driving distance. Documents and images filed with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveal a refreshed Model Y spec that could push CLTC range figures beyond 800 kilometers.

This Long Range RWD variant pairs a 225 kW (about 302 hp) rear electric motor with an LG-supplied NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) prismatic battery pack—an approach similar to the recent changes Tesla applied to the Model 3.
