Binance Android App Missing from Google Play in Parts of EU

Binance’s Android application has disappeared from the Google Play Store in select European Union countries, raising fresh questions about the exchange’s compliance with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) licensing rules. Users in Spain reported they could no longer find the app via Google Play searches, though it remained accessible through Oppo’s App Market on compatible devices. By contrast, Polish users still see the Binance app on Google Play, indicating a partial, market-specific removal rather than a region-wide delisting.

MiCA compliance and regulatory context

Initial reports emerged after OKX Europe CEO Erald Ghoos suggested on X that the app’s disappearance was linked to MiCA requirements. The timing follows Binance’s recent withdrawal of a MiCA application in Greece prior to the framework’s transitional deadline on July 1. That move was soon followed by notices to some EU customers about service restrictions, while withdrawals were reportedly left available.

What this means for users and the crypto ecosystem

The inconsistent availability of Binance on Google Play underscores the operational challenges faced by major crypto exchanges during the rollout of EU crypto regulation. For users, the change could affect discoverability and convenience on Android devices, though alternative app stores and direct APK distribution may still offer access. Cointelegraph reached out to Binance for comment but had not received a response by publication time.

As MiCA implementation continues to shape licensing and compliance for crypto exchanges across Europe, market participants should monitor app-store availability, regulatory notices, and official announcements from both regulators and exchanges to assess impacts on services and user access.
