Harmony rolls back blockchain to undo fake ONE token attack
Harmony has announced a rollback of its mainnet to a block recorded at 23:25 UTC on August 11 after a recent exploit produced roughly 4 billion counterfeit ONE tokens. The decision will remove a total of 109,126 ordinary transactions and 315 staking transactions from the chain history as the network resets its database and resumes block production from that point.
How the rollback will be executed
Harmony validators will revert the ledger state to the specified block and continue producing blocks on the restored chain. According to the team, selective restoration of specific transactions is not possible because wallet balances and smart contract states will change in the new chain state. The database reset is intended to contain the fallout from the minting of fake ONE tokens and to reestablish a clean ledger.

Tracing fake tokens and industry response
Blockchain researchers have reportedly traced nearly all of the counterfeit ONE tokens to destination wallets and services. Harmony says it is coordinating with centralized exchanges, cross-chain bridges, and law enforcement to freeze or recover stolen funds where possible. Validators, node operators, and ecosystem partners are executing the rollback as part of a coordinated incident response.
Trust, transaction finality and market impact
While the rollback aims to restore network integrity, it raises renewed concerns about transaction finality and security for users and investors. Small holders with transactions included in the removed window may be most affected. At the time of reporting, ONE’s market cap is roughly $10.5 million and the token trades more than 99% below its all-time high, underscoring the reputational and economic impact of the exploit.
