Huawei is reportedly testing a 6.17-inch, 1.5K display for a new, smaller smartphone, according to tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS). The leak does not name the device and DCS notes the details remain unconfirmed.
Original report by Rajesh Regmi, Oct 10, 2026. The screen size would place the device well below the display diagonals of Huawei's recent flagships and closer to what buyers typically describe as a compact phone, though it would not match the smaller footprint of the former iPhone mini series.
Development details and timeline
DCS says the information derives from early splash screen data and does not clarify where the handset would sit in Huawei's lineup. Nothing in the leak points to Nova, Pura, Mate, or an entirely new series. In comments, DCS provided a rough timetable and said that if development proceeds smoothly the phone could appear next year.
The leak contains no information about chipset, battery, cameras, or price.

Huawei's recent form-factor experiments
Huawei has been exploring nonstandard formats in recent years. The Pura X is a wide foldable that opens to a 6.3-inch, 16:10 screen. The company later introduced the Pura X Max, a wider foldable with an inner screen measured at around 7.6 to 7.69 inches. A 6.17-inch flat phone would be a different product class but aligns with Huawei's willingness to avoid simply increasing screen size year over year.
At present the only verified detail is a 6.17-inch, 1.5K panel; other hardware and pricing remain unreported.
Vivo's X500 Pro has moved the market somewhat closer to compact dimensions, and models such as the Asus Zenfone 10 and Apple's iPhone mini series are often cited in discussions of small flagship phones, but commercial success for compact flagships has been limited. We will publish updates as further details emerge.
