On 17 September 2026 a post by Siddharth reported a Weibo tip from leaker Smart Pikachu that outlines key specifications for the Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max, a model said to be part of a Mate 90 series expected to launch in October 2026. The central claim is that the Pro Max will use Huawei’s Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, the same chipset Huawei deployed in the recently launched Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design tri-folding phone.

Smart Pikachu also says the Mate 90 Pro Max will adopt a next generation dual-layer OLED display and offer an optional privacy screen. A dual-layer OLED typically stacks two OLED layers to boost brightness or enable new visual features, while an optional privacy screen is intended to narrow off-axis viewing angles so content is harder to see from the side; these are presented as the tipster’s claims, not confirmed specifications.

Imaging and camera system

On imaging, the leak attributes a 200MP periscope telephoto camera to the Mate 90 Pro Max alongside an upgraded ultrawide camera and a new generation Red Maple imaging system. A periscope telephoto module generally uses folded optics to increase optical zoom without adding phone thickness, and the tip links the 200MP figure specifically to that telephoto unit.

Smart Pikachu previously claimed the device would include a dual telephoto camera arrangement similar to the Mate 80 Pro Max but with support for up to 10x optical zoom. The same source also reportedly expects a near 1 inch primary rear camera sensor for the Pro Max. All of these camera details are presented as tips from the leaker rather than confirmed hardware from Huawei.

Huawei has not officially confirmed the Kirin 9050 Pro, the dual-layer OLED, the optional privacy screen, the Red Maple system, the 200MP periscope, the dual telephoto arrangement with up to 10x optical zoom, or a near 1 inch primary sensor for the Mate 90 Pro Max. The claims remain unverified until Huawei publishes formal specifications.
