2027 Kia K5 Drops EX Trim, LXS Becomes Entry Model

The 2027 Kia K5 drops the EX trim, making the LXS the new entry-level model for the mid-size sedan.

Kia America describes the 2027 K5 as largely a carryover, but the most visible change is the removal of the EX from the lineup. Pricing starts at $27,690 for the LXS before destination; a freight charge of $1,245 raises the out-the-door entry figure to $28,935 before other taxes.

The range now consists of LXS, GT-Line, and GT, with equipment changes concentrated on the GT-Line.

Pricing and trims

For 2027 the GT-Line sits $1,000 above the LXS at $28,690. The GT-Line can be specified with all-wheel drive for an additional $1,600, which brings its MSRP to $30,290 before destination charges. The sportier GT remains the top regular model at $33,790, about $6,100 more than the LXS.

The GT-Line receives the most notable equipment bump: an optional convenience package adds power-folding side mirrors, a memory driver’s seat, and ventilated front seats. Kia retains the optional all-wheel-drive system on the GT-Line, positioned as a capability and weather-oriented middle ground between the front-drive LXS/GT-Line and the performance-focused GT.

Powertrain, performance and economy

The K5 GT continues with the 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four rated at 290 horsepower. Core specifications and performance figures are unchanged for the 2027 model year.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the K5 with the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine averages 30 miles per gallon combined, equal to 7.8 liters per 100 kilometers. Switching to either the turbocharged 2.5 or the all-wheel-drive option reduces the EPA combined figure to 27 miles per gallon, equal to 8.7 liters per 100 kilometers.

Safety and driver-assistance equipment remain consistent across the range, with Kia listing 17 standard collision-avoidance and driver-assistance features on the 2027 K5.

Sales context underlines the K5’s position in Kia's U.S. lineup: during the first six months of 2026 the K5 sold 38,394 units, compared with 73,602 deliveries for the Telluride and 94,907 for the Sportage.
