Maybach SL 680 Gold Edition Render Emphasizes V8 Powertrain

The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series Gold Edition render dresses the roadster in prominent gold trim for grille, hood and exterior accents, but it is a social-media CGI project rather than an official factory release.

This Gold Edition is a CGI concept, not an official Mercedes-Maybach product. The image was posted to Instagram by @ildar_project with Dubai cited as the location; the artist appended the Gold Edition subtitle to the Monogram Series name, which is the model's official designation.

The rendering applies gold accents to the front bumper, windshield surround, side skirts, door handles, front fender trim, rear bumper and tailpipe trim, with additional gold on the trunk badges, three-pointed star and even the hood patterned with Maybach logos. The roadster is shown in a brown exterior finish, set noticeably lower than stock and shod with oversized, highly concave wheels whose outer rims carry more gold. The folding soft top is depicted in black, and the lamps and windows appear tinted; the interior is not shown in the artist's composition.

Maybach's Monogram Series treatment is based on the Mercedes-AMG SL roadster but is configured as a two-seater rather than offering rear accommodation. Maybach-specific interior treatments include unique graphics and animations on the portrait-oriented touchscreen and extensive fine-leather wrapping on the steering wheel, lower dash, door cards and seats in production Monogram Series examples, though the render does not visualize those details.

Powertrain and pricing

The "680" suffix can suggest a V12 to some observers, but the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series uses the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 fitted to the Mercedes-AMG SL 63. That V8 is rated at 577 hp (585 ps/430 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm); peak torque is said to be available between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm and peak power between 5,500 and 6,500 rpm. Mercedes lists a 0-60 mph time of around four seconds and a top speed of 161 mph (259 kph) for the model. By contrast, the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 sedan carries a handcrafted 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 producing 621 hp (630 ps/463 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) and accelerates to 60 mph in about 4.3 seconds.

In the United States the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series carries an MSRP of $225,900. For comparison the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 starts at $190,500, the SL 55 at $147,750 and the base AMG SL 43 at $114,900. All prices quoted are MSRPs and exclude dealer fees, destination charges and optional equipment.

The original Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series was unveiled more than two years ago as Maybach's sportiest model to date; the Gold Edition seen here remains a designer's CGI exercise circulating on social media rather than a factory-offered special.
