Handelsblatt reports that Porsche may show a low-volume hypercar, reportedly called the S1, on October 7 as part of the company’s Capital Markets Day. The publication said the car could carry an estimated price of around 500,000 euros. Porsche has not confirmed the S1 or the flat-8 engine, and the report described uncertainty about whether the eight-cylinder powertrain is a firm production plan. Handelsblatt further said chief executive officer Michael Leiters wants to expand Porsche into higher-margin segments, and a hypercar above the 911 would fit that strategy.

Flat-8 prototype history and technical claims

Porsche has never fitted a flat-8 to a production model, but prototypes and test engines have appeared in recent years. In 2023 Marcos Marques, an e-fuels proponent, described a twin-turbocharged flat-8 prototype with a 5.0-liter displacement. Marques said that engine produced 750 horsepower and 738 pound-feet (1,000 Newton-meters) of torque and was installed in a Cayman-based test vehicle paired with a manual transmission. According to Marques, the project did not proceed after Porsche executives prioritised electrification at the time.

RUF installed the B8 in a lengthened CTR3 development mule adapted for the engine and paired it with a six-speed transmission.
