Renault 8 Gordini Concept: 270hp Electric Coupé Debut

Renault has revealed the Renault 8 Gordini Concept, a two-seat electric coupé with 270 horsepower. The prototype was shown at the Renault Carwalk and will make its global public debut on the Renault stand at the Paris Motor Show, October 12–18, 2026.

The concept is a tribute to the rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive R8 Gordini first tuned by Amédée Gordini in 1964, a model that offered roughly 95 horsepower and helped popularise accessible sports cars and rallying in Europe.

Renault describes the new car as a retro-modern interpretation that applies a widebody, café racer aesthetic to an all-electric layout. The concept is a two-seater coupé that swaps the original’s 95 horsepower for an electric powertrain rated at 270 horsepower.

The 8 Gordini Concept measures 4.12 m long, 1.88 m wide and 1.27 m tall (162.2 by 74 by 50 inches) and rides on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. It uses six LED headlights and a muscular rear end to reference the original car’s rear-engined architecture. Renault says it employed carbon fibre for the bodywork.

Inside, the concept retains the double-stripe motif and a full-width dashboard visor. Details include a horizontal brushed-aluminium strip, round dials with thick bezels that echo the headlights, blue Alcantara and leather surfaces, and brushed-aluminium contrasts throughout.

"We drew inspiration from the original Renault 8 dashboard, taking its iconic design cues and reinterpreting them for today. The traditional metal panel with its circular dials has been repositioned horizontally to support and showcase a series of perfectly aligned round screens," explains Stéphane Maiore, Renault interior design director. Renault also notes the cabin uses no carbon-fibre trim and relies on digital displays and indirect ambient lighting beneath the dash.

Renault says the Gordini concept grew from roughly 300 proposals by its designers. "With the Renault 8 Gordini Concept, we wanted to spark emotion by drawing on both our heritage and modern times, bringing together the icons of yesterday and the future," explains Alexandre Malval, VP Design, Renault. "This exercise in style sets out to reinvent Renault 8 Gordini for the modern day. The aim of this coupé is to inspire emotion and capture the imagination of all car enthusiasts. And when I talk about emotion, I'm not talking about nostalgia, but real passion for cars," he continues.

The Gordini is presented as a concept; Renault has not announced production plans or technical specifications beyond the power figure and the styling and interior features described here.
