At the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii on September 24, 2026, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2, a premium audio platform that the company says is built to give earbuds and other wearables on-device personal AI capabilities rather than relying solely on phones.
Qualcomm says the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 is its first premium audio platform designed specifically with personal AI in mind.

Audio features and on‑device intelligence
The platform combines high-fidelity audio processing with voice technology and on-device intelligence. Qualcomm says it supports aptX Lossless for lossless wireless streaming and includes XPAN to extend effective range beyond typical Bluetooth limits. The platform also integrates 5th generation adaptive active noise cancellation, Qualcomm cVc echo and noise suppression, and multi-microphone support. Qualcomm says this combination aims to improve noise reduction and voice pickup for calls and for talking to AI assistants in noisy environments.

Connectivity options and product targets
Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 includes built-in micro-power Wi-Fi 6E to let compatible devices connect directly to AI assistants, while retaining Bluetooth support for broader compatibility. Qualcomm intends the platform for a wide range of form factors and is offering reference designs to accelerate product development.
- True wireless earbuds
- Over-ear headphones
- Open-ear designs and audio glasses
- Earbuds with cameras and other emerging multimodal wearables

Compute, power and compactness
Qualcomm highlights a substantial performance increase versus the previous Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform. Where the S7 Gen 1 topped out at 64 GOPS of AI compute and 128 MAC operations per cycle, the new platform more than doubles that to 128 GOPS and 256 MAC operations per cycle. Qualcomm says power consumption can fall by up to 40% and the overall footprint can shrink by as much as 30%, changes it says are important for fitting more features into small earbud enclosures.

Qualcomm positions the platform to enable real-time translation, contextual assistance, personalized hearing and other multimodal interactions, while providing manufacturers flexibility through Bluetooth and direct Wi-Fi 6E connections.
